Cattle have been imported to the Kendal/Preston area of England and Stirling area of Scotland which have on testing been identified with Bluetongue virus. We all need to be aware of this and need to be responsible in reporting suspicious signs to Veterinary Surgeons. The cattle were imported from France and I understand are being humanely destroyed. The signs of nasal discharge drooling and swollen tongue typical of the disease are often not so pronounced in goats as cattle and sheep but we should be alert to the possibility of this condition at this time.

Many thanks

Ian
